The entire commercial value of reseller hosting rests on one promise: your clients believe they are dealing with your hosting company, not a wholesale provider they've never heard of. Get white-labeling right and a client never has a reason to question who is actually running the infrastructure. Get it wrong — a stray email footer, a visible nameserver, an unbranded invoice — and the illusion breaks at exactly the moment a client is deciding whether to trust you with their business online.

The Five Places White-Labeling Can Fail

Step 1: Private Nameservers, Done Correctly

This is the single highest-priority white-label step because it's the one thing every client sees, immediately, in their domain registrar settings. The process:

  1. Choose two hostnames under your own domain: ns1.yourbrand.com and ns2.yourbrand.com
  2. In WHM, register these as nameservers and point them at the IP addresses your provider assigns you
  3. At your domain registrar, create "glue records" (A records for the nameserver hostnames themselves) so the internet can resolve ns1.yourbrand.com to an actual IP
  4. Update your own domain's nameservers to point to these, then repeat for every client domain going forward

Most providers, including WebsNP, walk new resellers through this during onboarding — it typically takes under 15 minutes and only needs to be configured once per brand, not per client.

Step 2: Branding the cPanel and WHM Interface

WHM includes a branding editor where you upload your logo, set brand colors, and customize the exact login page and interface theme your clients see when they log into cPanel. This is a one-time setup that then applies automatically to every client account you create afterward — there's no per-client branding work required.

Step 3: Billing Software Under Your Brand

If you're using WHMCS, Blesta, or a similar platform to automate signups and invoicing, every piece of client-facing text — company name, support email, invoice template, terms of service — needs to reflect your brand, not the wholesale provider's default template. This is easy to overlook because billing software setup happens once and is rarely revisited, but it's one of the most client-visible touchpoints of all (clients see an invoice every single billing cycle).

Step 4: Support Channel Consistency

Decide upfront: do clients ever contact the wholesale provider directly, or only you? For genuine white-labeling, the answer should be "only you" — your provider supports you as the reseller, and you support your clients directly. This keeps your brand as the only one your clients ever interact with, which matters enormously for trust and retention.

Step 5: Domain and WHOIS Privacy

If you register client domains on their behalf, enable WHOIS privacy protection so the registration details don't leak your wholesale provider's name or your own personal information into a public WHOIS lookup — a small detail that occasionally undermines an otherwise well-executed white-label setup.

What Clients Should Never Be Able to Find

  • The name of your wholesale hosting provider, anywhere in their cPanel, email, or invoices
  • Any nameserver, IP reverse-DNS lookup, or support contact that traces back to anyone but you
  • Pricing information that reveals your wholesale cost versus their retail price

Getting It Right From Day One

White-labeling is far easier to set up correctly before you onboard your first client than to retrofit after 20 clients are already using un-branded nameservers. Budget an hour during onboarding to walk through all five touchpoints above, rather than discovering gaps one client complaint at a time.

WebsNP's reseller hosting includes private nameserver setup support, full cPanel/WHM branding tools, and a dedicated onboarding walkthrough so your brand — not ours — is the only one your clients ever see. See our white-label reseller hosting plans for details.
