On paper, a VPS with 4 dedicated vCPUs and a dedicated server with 4 physical cores look similar. In practice, the dedicated server wins on consistency rather than raw speed: there is no hypervisor layer, no shared disk controller, and no possibility of another tenant saturating the network interface during your traffic peak. For a typical WordPress or Laravel site the difference is invisible — both will serve pages in well under 200ms. The gap appears under sustained load: long-running database queries, video transcoding, backup windows, and cache-rebuild storms all benefit from bare metal's uncontended I/O.

A dedicated server's higher monthly price is only part of the equation. VPS plans can be resized in one click, so you pay for tomorrow's capacity tomorrow — a project that starts on a $4.49 plan can scale to 16GB of RAM without a migration. Dedicated hardware is a step function: upgrading means a hardware change or a move to a bigger machine. On the other hand, one well-specced dedicated server often replaces three or four mid-size VPS instances for database-heavy workloads, and the per-gigabyte cost of RAM and storage is lower at the top end. Our rule of thumb: if your infrastructure spend is under about $50/month, VPS is almost always the better value; above $150/month of aggregated VPS spend, price out a dedicated server.
This decision is not permanent. Because both our VPS plans and dedicated servers run standard Linux with full root access, moving between them is an ordinary server migration — our team handles it free of charge, typically overnight with a brief DNS cutover. Many customers start on a VPS, validate their product, and graduate to dedicated hardware once revenue justifies it.
