- FAQ sections do double duty: they close sales on the page and can win extra space in Google.
- Most sites waste both chances.
FAQ Sections: Design and Schema That Win Rich Results
A good FAQ section is the hardest-working block on your website. On the page, it answers the objections stopping someone from contacting you. In Google, FAQ schema markup can earn your listing extra visibility for question searches. Most Nepali business sites waste both opportunities with five generic questions nobody ever asked, like "What is web design?".
Let us fix both halves: the design half and the markup half.
Write questions people actually ask
Open your Viber and Messenger business chats. The questions repeating there are your FAQ, verbatim. For a typical Nepali service business that means: How much does it cost? How long does it take? Do you take eSewa or bank transfer? Do I need to come to your office? What happens if I am not satisfied? Is there a warranty? Can you deliver outside the Valley?
Write answers like you talk. Two to four sentences. Include real numbers where you can: "Delivery inside Ring Road takes 1 to 2 days and costs NPR 100" beats "We offer fast, convenient delivery options". If an answer needs 300 words, it deserves its own page; link to it from a short FAQ answer instead.
Designing the FAQ block
The accordion (click a question, the answer expands) is the standard pattern for good reason: it lets a visitor scan fifteen questions in the space of three. A few rules make it work:
- Questions styled as clearly clickable, with a chevron or plus icon that changes state
- Large tap targets, the whole question row, not just the icon, this matters on phones
- Consider having the first question open by default so people understand the pattern
- Order by importance: pricing and trust questions first, edge cases last
- End with an escape hatch: "Still have questions?" and a WhatsApp or call button
If you have under five questions, skip the accordion and just show them open. Hiding four short answers behind clicks is ceremony without benefit.

See Website Design PackagesThe schema half: telling Google these are FAQs
FAQ schema is a small block of structured data (JSON-LD) in the page code that lists your questions and answers in a format Google reads directly. With it, your page becomes eligible for FAQ rich results, and the questions can also feed "People also ask" style features. The markup must mirror the visible content: same questions, same answers. Marking up FAQs that are not actually on the page violates Google's guidelines and can earn a manual penalty.
Now the honest part. Google has reduced FAQ rich results in recent years; they show far less often than they did in 2021, and mostly for authoritative sites. So treat the rich result as a possible bonus, not a promise. The schema still helps Google understand your page, the answers still feed AI-generated overviews, and the on-page FAQ still closes sales regardless of what Google decorates. Anyone guaranteeing you rich results is selling weather forecasts.
