How to Choose an LMS for Your Institute in Nepal

Updated 14 Oct 2026 ยท 7 min read ยท WebsNP team

The best LMS for a Nepali institute is the one your teachers will actually use and your students can open on a phone with ordinary mobile data. Everything else, including long feature lists, comes second. This guide gives you a plain checklist so you can compare options without being impressed by demos that do not match your classroom.

Start with your teaching, not the software

Write down how you teach today. Do you run live classes, recorded lessons, or a mix? Do students take weekly tests? Do you give certificates? Are fees paid in full or in instalments? A short page of answers becomes your requirement list. A vendor who cannot map each line to a feature is not ready for your institute.

Also note who will upload content. If one busy teacher will do everything, simple screens matter more than advanced settings. If five teachers will upload, you need roles so one teacher cannot edit another teacher's course.

Features that matter most

  • Course structure: sections, lessons, notes and files in a clear order.
  • Video handling: private hosting, resume where you left off and reasonable behaviour on a weak connection.
  • Quizzes: timed tests, automatic marking, attempt limits and review of wrong answers.
  • Enrolment control: access that starts when a student is enrolled and can stop when they are not.
  • Progress reports: who has finished what, with scores you can export.
  • Certificates: templates with your branding and a unique number you can verify later.
  • Notifications: notices to a batch by email, and WhatsApp or SMS where configured.

Features that sound good but are often unnecessary

Badges, leaderboards, discussion forums and artificial intelligence tutors look impressive in a demo. If you are a tuition centre with 80 students, a simple notice board and WhatsApp group for doubts may serve better. Ask for a short first version and add modules later. This keeps the cost lower and the training time shorter.

Hosting and ownership questions

Ask where your videos and student data will be stored, who holds the domain, and what happens if you stop using the service. You should be able to export student lists, results and course files. Avoid any arrangement where your content disappears when a subscription ends and you have no copy.

Also ask about backups and how often they are taken. Recorded lessons represent months of teaching effort, so losing them to a server fault would hurt far more than a delayed launch.

Payments and fee tracking

Most Nepali students pay by bank transfer, QR or mobile wallet, and some pay in cash at the front desk. Ask how payments are recorded: automatically through a gateway, or manually by staff who then activate the enrolment. Both are valid. What matters is that the system shows each student's paid and due amount and that enrolment can be locked when fees lapse. Any payment gateway integration should be described as something that can be configured for your account, and you should confirm the exact method and its charges with the provider.

Language and mobile experience

Open the demo on your own phone, not on the vendor's laptop. Check that Nepali text displays correctly, buttons are easy to tap and a video starts without a long wait. Ask how the platform behaves when the connection drops halfway through a quiz, because this happens often. Good systems save answers as the student goes.

Support and training

A platform is only as good as the help available in the first month. Ask whether support is available on WhatsApp, in Nepali, and during the hours your teachers work. Ask if staff training is included, and how changes are requested later. At WebsNP we set up your first courses with you, so the platform is not left empty after handover.

Questions to ask every vendor

  1. Can I see a working demo with a course like mine?
  2. Who owns the student data and videos?
  3. What is included in the quote and what costs extra later?
  4. How are lessons protected from being shared?
  5. Can I export results and student lists?
  6. Who do I contact when something breaks on a Sunday evening before an exam?

A simple way to score your shortlist

Give each option a mark out of five for the seven areas that matter to you: course structure, video, quizzes, enrolment control, reports, payments and support. Weight the areas that hurt most today. A coaching centre worried about leaked recordings should weight enrolment control and video heavily. A training institute that issues certificates should weight certificate templates and progress reports. Add the marks and discuss the top two with your teachers, because they will use the system every day.

Red flags during a demo

  • The vendor only shows screenshots and never a live login.
  • Every question about customisation is answered with "possible" but no explanation of how.
  • Nobody can say who pays for hosting and video storage as you grow.
  • There is no way to try a student account on a phone.
  • The contract does not mention what happens to your data when it ends.

None of these automatically rules a vendor out, but each deserves a straight written answer before you commit. A reputable provider will not mind being asked.

Next step

Write your requirement page, then ask for a demo that follows it. You can read what we include on the E-learning (LMS) software page, or message us on WhatsApp on +977 9846280400. If your institute also needs batch fees and attendance, look at coaching institute software alongside it.
