Mobile Shop Software ยท Guide
How to Choose Mobile Shop Software in Nepal
The best mobile shop software records an IMEI at purchase, prints it on the sale bill, sells cheap accessories in seconds and handles repairs and used phones without a second tool. If a system makes you pick between a good phone register and a fast accessory counter, it is the wrong system for a typical Nepali phone shop.
This guide explains what to test, what to ignore and which questions separate a useful product from a nice demo.
Know the two halves of your business
A phone shop is really two businesses sharing one counter:
- Handsets: few units per day, high value, individually identified, with warranty and sometimes exchange.
- Accessories and services: many small sales, low value per item, quick billing and rapid stock movement.
The first half needs depth: IMEI, variant, supplier bill. The second needs speed: barcode, search, minimal clicks. A product that handles one well and the other badly will frustrate either you or your counter staff. During the demo, run both flows back to back.
Features to test first
IMEI handling
Ask to see a dual-SIM phone received with two IMEI numbers, sold, and then searched by either number. Check what happens if you try to sell the same handset twice; the system should stop you. Ask how IMEIs are entered. Typing fifteen digits twice per phone is slow and error prone, so scanning from the box or importing from a supplier list is better.
Variants
One model often has several colours and storage sizes, each with a different price. If stock is only kept by model name, you will not know whether the 128 GB blue is in. Variant-level stock is essential.
Accessory speed
Time how long it takes to bill five small items. Look for barcode scanning, quick search by partial name and the ability to apply a small discount without opening a new screen.
Repair jobs
If you repair phones, the job card should record the fault, estimate, parts, technician and status. Finished jobs should convert to a bill without retyping.
Used phone purchases
If you buy used handsets, you need seller name, contact, IMEI and condition recorded before the phone enters stock. This protects you if a phone later turns out to have a problem and someone asks where it came from.
A simple scorecard
| Test | Pass looks like |
|---|---|
| Sell a phone by IMEI | Picked from stock, printed on bill, cannot be sold twice |
| Find stock of one variant | One search shows colour and storage counts |
| Bill five accessories | Under a minute with barcode or search |
| Open and finish a repair | Job number, parts from stock, bill at the end |
| Take in a used phone | Seller details required, IMEI stored |
| Close the day | Cash, bank and QR totals separated |
Mistakes to avoid
- Buying a restaurant or grocery POS. They are fast but have no IMEI concept. You will end up writing IMEI in a notes field.
- Ignoring the cash side. Phone shops take cash, bank deposits and QR payments in the same hour. If the software cannot split them, closing will be an argument.
- Letting the vendor skip data import. Entering hundreds of accessory lines by hand takes days.
- Not asking about backup. Your sale history is your proof of warranty and your protection in a dispute.
- Forgetting staff permissions. A new counter hand should not be able to change purchase costs or delete bills. Ask about user roles.
Run the demo with your own cases
A prepared demo always looks smooth. Ask for a live one that follows your day instead:
- Receive a carton of five phones across two models and three colours, scanning or typing the IMEIs.
- Sell one phone with an exchange of an old handset against part of the price.
- Sell a cover, a glass protector and a charger together, applying a small discount.
- Take in a cracked-screen phone for repair, add a part from stock and bill it.
- Print the closing summary with cash and QR totals separated.
Count the number of screens the vendor opens. If the exchange case needs three separate workarounds, you will feel it every Saturday. Ask your counter staff to sit in, because they will use the product more than you will. Their first reaction is useful: if they find it confusing in an hour, they will find it slow in a rush.
Finally, ask what happens when you outgrow the first setup. Adding a second counter or a second shop should be a configuration change, not a new purchase from scratch.
Questions for any vendor
- Can I see a phone traced from supplier to customer by IMEI?
- What happens during a power or internet break at the counter?
- Can staff see cost price, or can I hide it?
- How are bill formats and VAT settings changed if rules change?
- Is training included and how long does support last?
- How do you price for multiple branches?
Treat a fixed price offered before anyone asks about your branches and users with caution. A fair quote follows a demo.
