Google Workspace Business Standard: the plan most growing teams pick

A week at a 12-person consultancy

Take an education consultancy in Putalisadak: two directors, six counsellors, a documentation officer, two marketing staff and an accountant. Twelve licences on Business Standard. Here is where the edition earns its price.

Monday. A counsellor runs a Meet call with a university admissions officer in Australia. The call is recorded, with the student's consent, so the paperwork requirements can be checked later against what was actually said rather than what someone remembered. Recording is not available on Starter.

Tuesday. The documentation officer drafts an offer-summary letter in Docs with Gemini's help, then asks Gemini to pull the key dates out of a long email thread. The accountant asks Gemini in Sheets to summarise the month's application fees. None of that exists on Starter, where Gemini stops at Gmail.

Wednesday. Two counsellors take a joint session with fifteen parents. Breakout rooms split them into two groups, and noise cancellation keeps the traffic on the street out of the call.

Thursday. A service agreement goes out for signature from Drive using eSignature, so nobody prints, signs, scans and emails a crooked PDF back.

Friday. Marketing uploads a folder of video from a college fair. At 2 TB per user pooled, a twelve-person team has 24 TB to share, so the upload is a non-event. The same folder would have been a crisis on a Starter pool.

2 TB per user, and what pooled means

Storage in Workspace belongs to the organisation, not the individual. Twelve Standard licences create a 24 TB pool covering Gmail, Drive and Photos for everyone. One person editing 4K video can use several terabytes of it while a counsellor uses ten gigabytes, and nothing needs rebalancing.

The pool still has an edge. Exceed it by 25%, or stay over it for 14 days, and users can no longer add files to Drive or create new Docs, Sheets and Slides. At 2 TB per licence that is a distant problem for most teams, but it is the reason to keep an eye on Shared Drives full of raw video. Individual files can be up to 5 TB.

Meet: recording, breakouts and 150 seats

Standard raises the participant limit from 100 to 150 and keeps the 24-hour meeting length. What matters more than the seat count is the feature set: recording, noise cancellation and breakout rooms all start here, and so do Meet's Gemini abilities, including "Take notes for me", speech translation and translated captions.

Translated captions are useful for calls with overseas partners, but the languages supported are Google's to decide and change, so check the current list against the language you need rather than assuming it is covered. What Standard does not add is attendance tracking, which is a Business Plus feature, or live streaming, which is not in any Business edition.

Gemini in the apps you actually work in

On Business Starter, Gemini stops at Gmail. Standard extends it across the suite:

• Docs, Sheets and Slides: drafting, rewriting, summarising and generating from a prompt inside the document you are already in.
• The Drive side panel, for asking questions about a file without opening it.
• Meet: "Take notes for me", speech translation and translated captions.
• The Gemini app at Pro access, where chats and uploads are not reviewed by humans and are not used to improve Google's models. On Starter the app is at Standard access, where they may be.
• Gemini Notebook with higher limits than the Starter tier, plus Workspace Studio.

Since January 2025 these are part of the plan price rather than a paid add-on. An administrator still has to turn the Gemini app on in the Admin console, and users must be 18 or older. eSignature and booking pages

Two smaller features that quietly change a working week. eSignature lets you send a document from Drive for signature and keeps the signed copy with the file, which suits engagement letters, service agreements and offer letters. Booking pages let clients pick a slot from your Calendar; Starter allows one page, while Standard and Plus give the full feature, so each counsellor or consultant can have their own.

Business Standard price in Nepal

Google's list price for Business Standard is $14 per user per month on the annual or fixed-term plan and $16.80 on the flexible monthly plan, billed in US dollars by card because rupees are not a supported Google billing currency. WebsNP invoices in rupees and takes Fonepay QR, bank transfer or eSewa.

When Standard is the wrong choice

Two directions to consider before you order.

• Down to Starter. If your team mostly sends email, never records meetings and keeps documents small, the extra storage and Gemini reach will go unused. Business Starter is the honest answer, and you can move people up later.
• Up to Plus. If you must retain mail and files after staff leave for audit or legal reasons, need eDiscovery, run meetings for hundreds of people or want attendance tracking and tighter device control, those live in Business Plus.

Editions can be mixed inside one organisation, so a common arrangement is Standard for client-facing staff, Starter for the rest, and Plus for the two or three people whose records must be held.
