Google Workspace Business Starter: what you get and who it suits

Picture the office this edition fits

A boutique in Pokhara with four staff. The owner answers info@, two people handle suppliers and orders by email, and one keeps the stock sheet. They meet customers face to face, they do not record meetings, and their documents are a folder of spreadsheets, some scanned bills and product photos. Nobody in that office will ever open Google Vault.

Starter covers all of it. Every person gets an address on the company domain, mail is filtered and searchable, files sit in Drive instead of on one laptop, and the owner can reset a password or close an account from the Admin console without calling anyone. Spending more per user would buy features that office would not open.

What Business Starter includes

The 30 GB is not what most people assume

Google does not give each Starter user a private 30 GB box. The 30 GB is multiplied by your licence count and shared across the whole organisation. Five users means a 150 GB pool. If your designer uses 90 GB of it and three colleagues use two gigabytes each, nothing breaks, because the pool is what counts.

What does break is running out. If the organisation goes over its pool by 25%, or stays over it for 14 days, users can no longer add new files to Drive or create new Docs, Sheets and Slides. Mail flow and existing files are a separate matter from that limit, but it is not a state you want to discover on a deadline.

Meet on Starter

Up to 100 participants, up to 24 hours per meeting. That is plenty for a supplier call or a weekly team catch-up. What Starter does not get is recording, noise cancellation, breakout rooms or attendance tracking, and Meet's Gemini features, including "Take notes for me" and speech translation, start at Business Standard.

The recording gap is the one that changes buying decisions. If you interview candidates, run classes or need a record of client calls, that requirement alone justifies the higher edition.

Gemini on Business Starter, precisely

Since January 2025 Google includes Gemini features in Business plans instead of selling a separate add-on, but the amount included is not the same in every edition. On Starter you get:

• Gemini in Gmail: Help me write, Proofread, suggested replies, thread summaries and an AI overview when you search your mail.
• The Gemini app at Standard access. Access varies at this level, and chats may be reviewed by humans and used to improve Google's models. An administrator has to turn the Gemini app on in the Admin console, and users must be 18 or older.
• Gemini Notebook (formerly NotebookLM), now included in all Workspace plans, at the lower tier on Starter.

On Starter there is no Gemini in Docs, Sheets or Slides, no "Help me schedule", no Meet note-taking and no speech translation. Those begin at Business Standard, where the Gemini app also moves to Pro access, at which point chats and uploads are not reviewed by humans or used to improve models. What Starter does not include

Business Starter price in Nepal

Google's own list price for Business Starter is $7 per user per month on the annual or fixed-term plan and $8.40 on the flexible monthly plan, billed in US dollars by card, since rupees are not a supported Google billing currency. Payment to WebsNP is in rupees by Fonepay QR, bank transfer or eSewa, with an invoice for every payment. Full details, including the other editions, are on the Workspace price page.

When to buy Standard instead

Move up if any of these is true today, not hypothetically true next year:

1. You need recorded meetings. Training sessions, interviews, classes or client calls you must be able to replay.
2. Your files are big. Photography, video, CAD drawings or years of scanned paperwork will outgrow a 30 GB per user pool quickly. Standard moves it to 2 TB per user.
3. Writing is the work. Proposals, reports and decks all day means Gemini in Docs, Sheets and Slides is worth paying for.
4. You send contracts. eSignature starts at Standard.
5. Confidentiality of AI chats matters. Pro access on Standard means chats and uploads are not reviewed by humans.

You do not have to pick one edition for everyone. Give Standard to the people who record meetings or write documents, keep Starter for the rest, then adjust at renewal.
